Giveaway: Jane Eyre 2011 Prize Pack

Today is the day. Those of you who follow Stiletto Storytime know I am a devoted Janeite. I love Jane Austen. She is no doubt my favorite author. However I am also a devoted Janeite of a different type. My favorite novel of all time just happens to be Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. As I have said before Jane Eyre is like comfort food to me. It is my go-to book when I am under the weather or in need of a safe haven within the pages of a book. I read it multiple times a year and watch my favorite adaptations quite frequently. I feel almost as adamantly about my favorite Mr. Rochester (Ciaran Hinds) as I do about my favorite Mr. Darcy (Colin Firth). However one must wonder will that change as we usher in the newest Mr. Rochester?  Only time shall tell….

Taking all this into consideration you can imagine how excited I am about today being the release date for the latest Jane Eyre movie adaptation. This newest take on the classic from Focus Features hits select theatres today March 11, 2011. For show times, trailers, cast information and a fantastic trip sweepstakes you can go to the film’s website or visit their Facebook Page. There is also a JANE EYRE GoodReads Challenge afoot and a new Reading Guide from the 2011 Film.

Want an early review and sneak peek from a Bronte expert? Check out The Jane Austen Blog which is hosting author Syrie James with her review of the new film.

I am sorry to say, I have never read the books. I did enjoy the shows made from them that were on masterpiece theatre.

Jane Eyre in its many adaptations is always refreshing and a go-to for me. My Mom introduced me to Jane Eyre (the book and 40’s film version) when I was a young girl as it is her favorite book. No other book compares to this story; although, there are many imitators who tried. Enjoy!

  8. I love Jane Eyre too!!! Nice giveaway!!

  9. I’ve only read Jane Eyre once, about two years ago. It was never assigned to me in school and after seeing Isla Fisher’s character talk about it in Definitely, Maybe, I pulled it off my bookshelf and read it. One thing I remember about it is our power going out all night while I was reading and I had to light candles to read the part where Jane’s trying to figure out what’s going on in the middle of the night while she’s trying to sleep. Really set the mood.

  10. “Jane Eyre” has been my favorite book since I first read it at age 11. Wondering how Charlotte Bronte came to it inspired me to research her life and write my novel “The Secret Diaries of Charlotte Bronte.” I was fortunate enough to see the new film JANE EYRE at an advance screening. I loved it! You can find my review today at http://www.austenprose.com!

Thanks so much for hosting this give-away. I’d love to win!

  11. Well, my first Jane Eyre experience was at the age of 15 reading the book, curiosity, because I read wuthering heights and I wanted to “check out other books like this one” one thing takes to the other and a /Jane Austen/Bronte/Gaskell/Dickens etc fan was born =)
I have watched all the adaptations and I’m so excited about the 2011, can’t wait to go to the movie theater to watch it, what I like the most about new adaptations is the opportunity that they give to young people to learn about the classics and maybe makes them feel some curiority and read the real deal =)

  12. What a great contest and tribute to Jane Eyre!! How exciting!

Thanks to everyone who has entered and those who have signed up for the Classics Challenge thus far! Can’t wait to see who wins these great prize packs!

  18. I’m a Jane Eyre newbie, but I loved reading the novel! I tried reading Wide Sargasso Sea which is a prequel about Mr. Rochester’s mad-wife, but I didn’t like it much!

  19. What a great contest. Please include me.

I also follow/subscribe to the blog via Google and I have signed up for the Classics challenge.

As for my Jane Eyre experience, I read it once in Junior High and again in High School. Interestingly my most memorable experience was in High School when I got together with a bunch of guy friends before the AP English test to watch the Jane Eyre movie as a refresher and a quick overview to one of the guys who hadn’t read it. We didn’t really watch much of the movie…instead we played some poker and had some munchies. But it was fun.

This new movie looks great and has made me want to re-read Jane…perhaps for the classics challenge.

I have not read the book (shame on me!) but I have watched and loved many of the movies. I can not wait to watch the new one! I think Mia Wasikowska is lovely.

Ricki- Don’t worry you are not failing miserably…I have been slow out of the gate too since we moved and my son has been sick…and he’s a toddler and that’s a job in itself! But the joy of the challenge…we have all year! =)

  28. Rachel R

I read JE back when I was 12 or 13 (I’m 20 now) and was hooked. It’s my favorite book; I recommend it to everyone and I’ve seen so many adaptations of it. I’m particularly excited about this one though b/c I love almost every member of the cast and I cannot wait to see how they interpret the characters!
Thanks for this opportunity, and I hope you enjoy the movie!

  29. Please include me in this contest!

I have read Jane Eyre about 12 times, and like you, Miss Stiletto Storytime, it is my favorite novel of all time. I am a huge Jane Austen fan, but none of her novels can top Jane Eyre.

The only reason I haven’t been to the theater to see the new Jane Eyre adaptation is that I am meeting up with my sister (who I haven’t seen in a year, and who is also a giant Jane Eyre fan) on Monday, and we have plans to see it together.

Thanks for this contest, and for your great blog!

  30. Hi there, I’d like to win this one…I know you won’t believe this, but i have never actually read it…Gasp…I believe I have seen a movie verison…but…I need to win it…

Entered the classics challenge, which I’ve been planning to enter anyway.
Should have a review posted before the 25th.

  38. Jane Eyre is my favorite classic ever. I’ve read at least 7 or 8 times. I first read it in high school and it was one of the only books that we were made to read that I enjoyed so much. Even though I’ve read it so many times, I nearly always come across something new–or see a new level to a character that I hadn’t seen before.

Sadly, the movie isn’t playing anywhere near me 😦 My heart is broken. I suppose that means I have to wait even longer now to see it…but I guess I could go and re-read the book! It’s been a year or so since I have…

  39. Oh and subscribed to your blog and your Twitter (dmarie84) and I’m signing up for The Classics Challenge.

Also, I am following you on twitter (@stereobook).

Meekin- I almost did my thesis on a “Jane Eyre” type theme…”Jane Eyre” was one of my many referencing points…I would love to know what your topic was!

I have never read Jane Eyre but I would love to! I already subscribe to Stiletto Storytime, and follow Stiletto Storytime on Twitter. I just signed up for The Classics Challenge 2011 (and I’m very excited about that) so I will probably add Jane Eyre to my list for that.

  44. Awesome! I am intrigued by some of the darkness in this book. I’m slowly making my way through Austen’s Juvenilia (dark humour – hilarious!), and loved Northanger Abbey.

  45. Great contest! I’m actually doing the goodreads challenge and I am about to start the book. Everybody is saying such good things about it. I have seen the older movie not the new one yet. But I’m super excited about it.

    thanks for the great giveaway!

  46. YES!!! Jane Eyre is a favorite. Even more than P & P. I like that Jane was rewarded for her steadfastness and virtue. I only first read it two years ago and then looked for what I considered the best film version, overall. I liked the one with Tobias as Mr. Rochester. I haven’t seen this movie, yet, but will.

I read Jane Eyre first in high school because I chose it from a list! I fell in love immediately. I ended up reading it again for the next year’s summer reading project (we had a different teacher so they wouldn’t know I had already done the project!) It’s so dark and gothic, but with a mystery element and the eventual “silver lining”…and Jane is such a strong heroine!
I’ve seen every single version (tv & film) that has been made, some several times! (So far the Ruth Wilson/Toby Stephens version is my favourite…though they took a few liberties.) 😉
Can’t wait for the new version!!

(Also I’ve followed on twitter and the blog thru email) 🙂 What a great find!

  50. I read Jane Eyre for the first time when I was 11. There were things about it that I didn’t understand, but the story spoke to my heart. I reread more than once a year for the next few years….it was one of those books that grew with me.

In middle school I started loaning it out to friends, my copy of the book got so tattered from loaning it so many times, I had to buy a new one. In my seventh grade yearbook, there is at least three different people who thanked me for introducing them to their favorite book (Jane Eyre).

I still read it, usually at least once a year.

    -I subscribe to Stiletto Storytime.
    -I follow you on twitter.

I’m super excited to see the movie…..and really hoping that it will become my new favorite adaptation! *fingers crossed!

  51. Sally

Well, what can I say. I LOVE Jane Eyre. It is my favorite book. Ever since freshman year in high school, when I was first introduced to it by my English teacher, we have been inseparable. I remember that every student complained about it,”Oh it’s so boring”, but me on the otherhand had my head stuck to the book.

I would have to say that the best version I have seen of the classical novel Jane Eyre would be the BBC adaption with Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens. Although there are many others, this adaption was the best. But I think what made it so great was the actors. Mr. Rochester is well played by Toby Stephens and I have to admit he is very handsome and rugid to be Mr. Rochester. Now, that the new version of Jane Eyre came out. I cannot wait to see it and I have a excuse to tell my sister my favorite quote in the book
” Do you think, because I am poor, obsure, plain, and little, I am soulless and heartless?- I have as much soul as you- and full as much heart!

What is it about Jane Eyre? As a special treat, my sixth grade class was shown the movie years ago one day when it was on TV ( it was a black and white version and a black and white TV –I will say no more ) and I was immediately swept away with the story (and Mr Rochester…) Somehow I didn’t realize it was a book though. Then one day in the library a few years later I found a copy and started reading. I have re-read it a number of times since and have just started again, this time on my Kindle. I’ve heard good things about the new movie and am looking forward to seeing it.

  55. Stephanie

I first read it right after my high school graduation. So re-reading it is always pretty nostalgic, but still always wonderful 🙂 I can’t wait to see the movie!
