Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-A-Thon

It’s that time again…Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-Thon has begun! This is truly one of my favorite reading events. This will be my third time participating in this read-a-thon and I am super excited this year to not only be cheering (in the last four hours of the event) but also to be hosting an awesome mini-challenge later in the event. You’ll have to check back for that but needless to say the prize pack donated from the fabulous Quirk Books is pretty fantastic!

So now on to the big question…what am I reading? Well…this read-a-thon I decided to take a little bit of a different approach than others in the past. Usually I take advantage of the read-a-thon to catch up on books I need to read for reviewing purposes but not this time. This time I decided to read what I want to read no matter what it is…these are books I have been looking forward to for reviewing, books I have been meaning to read forever and even a few I may have read before. This is my time to enjoy some pleasurable 24 hours of books. So check out my picks below.

My Reading List

*The Baby Planner by Josie Brown

*Supernaturally by Kiersten White

*Beastly by Alex Flinn

*The Secret Diaries of Charlotte Bronte by Syrie James

*Numbers by Rachel Ward

*Delirium by Lauren Oliver

*The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson

*The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson

Mid-Event Survey:

1. What are you reading right now?

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson

2. How many books have you read so far? 2

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? Delirium by Lauren Oliver

4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day?

I try to free up my day and night for read-a-thon when I can being a Mommy and wife that can be difficult at times.

5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?

Well, we had to get family hair cuts today, meals, bath time… you get my drift. But the hubby helps- he knows I love read-a-thon and we plan for it as best we can. I also recently had some dental surgery and am still in pain from that so that has not made reading over sleeping the easiest thing to do but the reading keeps the mind off the pain to some degree. Unfortunately usually read-a-thon means yummy snacks and that’s not really been an option. So loving my green tea and coconut water.

6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?

This is my third read-a-thon and it just always is such a wonderful event. This year I am cheering and hosting a mini-challenge later so those new experiences should offer a new take and some added excitement!

7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?

Keep up the great work! I look forward to it every time.

8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year?

I would say personally I wish I could really make a 24 hour event of it. Clear my schedule…(maybe even get a hotel room -but then as a tired Mommy I would probably sleep so nevermind). It would also be nice to do the event with someone in person. I visited a blog participant today where a woman was doing the read-a-thon with her older son. I loved that idea.

9. Are you getting tired yet? I’m always tired…I have a toddler.

10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered?

Switch it up…if you are getting tired. Try a new book or new room. Don’t just give in. And if all else fails-caffeine is your friend.

Oh I’m also reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo! I’m on Chapter 14. It’s not as easygoing as I originally anticipated. I have a feeling that this would be the only unfinished book in my original 16 TBR pile for this challenge. You’re doing great, though. =)
